The Amgen Difference – Our People, Our Values

Amgen is a biotechnology pioneer with a mission to serve patients.

The mission of Amgen is really to serve patients.

We all know the purpose of our work is to serve patients.

Our mission is to be of service to patients through our daily activities.

What drew me to Amgen is really, really sincerely and authentically a company that puts patients at the center.

Our aspiration as a company is to be the best human therapeutics company in the world.

We don't aspire to be mediocre or just average. We want to be the best.

To be science-based means to be data-driven.

Science is what I do here. Science is what drives discovery.

Being science-based means we use an analytical approach to ask tough questions and solve complex problems.

We compete every day to provide a competitive advantage.

We motivate each other, we challenge each other so that we can perform our best.

To be ready to compete, but at the same time, we have to do it in a very respectful way.

Amgen brings value to patients by bringing safe and effective molecules.

You're not just looking at how you can make dollars, you're really looking at what is the science behind it and how can you achieve something for patients.

Amgen finds a way to reward the people. It's not only financially, but it can also be by providing feedback, by really recognizing the people.

Compliance and ethical behavior is not the option. It's a kind of a fundamental and a basic things.

We see it's not the ends that justify the means. It's how we get there that's just as important.

Trust and respect is one of the fundamental Amgen values. It's also essential for what we do at Amgen.

The company trusts that we will do a good job. The company trusts in our engagement.

I am seeing that quality is one of the most important things.

Amgen has a deep commitment to quality, whether it's designing programs and protocols to actually manufacturing the medication and then executing on the delivery of those products.

Without the collaboration of not just different teams, but I'd say different teams in different countries, we wouldn't be who we are today.

Working teams also means trust and support other team members to make critical decision

I like the sentence that says that alone you go faster, but together you go further.

What we feel now is a sense of community.

Collaborating, communicating, and being accountable is about engaging all of the stakeholders and keeping them involved.

It's important that we have diverse teams, that we trust each other, and that we collaborate at all levels.

To me, it means sharing your perspectives, listening actively to everyone else's perspectives and standing behind your work.

It's the science behind the molecules. It's the team, the friends that I have within the company.

It is also extremely satisfying to know that what you do gives such a significant contribution to the lives of others. That what you do is really meaningful.

A belief that we can bring the best out of each other to ensure that we do the best for our products and hence for our patients as well.

This is how we do business.

Our Mission

To Serve Patients

Our Values

  • Be Science-Based

Our success depends on superior scientific innovation, integrity and continuous improvement in all aspects of our business through the application of the scientific method. We see the scientific method as a multi-step process that includes designing the right experiment, collecting and analyzing data and rational decision making. It is not subjective or emotional, but rather a logical, open and rational process. Applying the scientific method in all parts of the organization is expected and highly valued.

  • Compete Intensely and Win

We compete against time, past performance and industry rivals to rapidly achieve high quality results. Winning requires taking risks. We cannot be lulled into complacency by previous achievements. Though we compete intensely, we maintain high ethical standards and demand integrity in our dealings with competitors, customers, partners and each other.

  • Create Value for Patients, Staff and Stockholders

We provide value by focusing on the needs of patients. Amgen creates a work environment that provides opportunities for staff members to reach their full potential. We strive to provide stockholders with superior long-term returns while balancing the needs of patients, staff and stockholders.

  • Be Ethical

We are relentless in applying the highest ethical standards to our products, services and communications.

  • Trust and Respect Each Other

Every job at Amgen is important and every Amgen staff member is important. We attract diverse, capable and committed people and provide an environment that fosters inclusion, respect, individual responsibility and values diversity. Trust is strengthened through personal initiative and by obtaining quality results rapidly.

  • Ensure Quality

Quality is a cornerstone of all of our activities. We seek the highest quality information, decisions and people. We produce high quality products and services. Quality is woven into the fabric of everything we do.

  • Work in Teams

Our teams work quickly to move scientific breakthroughs from the lab through the clinic to the marketplace and to support other aspects of our business. Diverse teams working together generate the best decisions for patients, staff and stockholders. Our team structure provides opportunities for Amgen staff to impact the direction of the organization, to gain broader perspective about other functions within Amgen and to reach their full potential.

  • Collaborate, Communicate and Be Accountable

Leaders at Amgen seek input and involve key stakeholders in important decisions. In gathering input, strong leaders will welcome diverse opinions, conflicting views and open dialogue for serious consideration. They will clearly communicate decisions and rationale openly and in a timely manner. Once a decision is made, the leader and members of the team will all be accountable for the results and for implementing the decision rapidly.
